Nasty Move | Knocking-Off Nat.

February 26, 2009

It’s been announced that Charlie Sheen is launching his own clothing line based on the “style” of his character on Two and a Half Men.  Way to strike while the iron is hot!  I think most of the world has moved on–aside from a few guys in Clifton, NJ.  Besides, that line already exists–Nat Nast (you may have also noticed their signature retro shirts on The Sopranos and Friends).  I think it’s a pretty nasty move.  Not only does Charlie fail to openly acknowledge the brand largely responsible for the past success of his character’s look on the show, but now he’s going to line his pockets by knocking them off?  Classy move.

I really hope I’ve got this story completely wrong, and that Nat Nast is actually involved in the deal– but unfortunately I haven’t heard their name mentioned once.

And what about this little gem– Toby Keith is throwing his over-sized hat into the ring as well.  Oy.  Looks to me like bad Affliction t-shirts off the sale rack at Dillard’s that some good ol’ boy ripped the sleeves off of.  Nice line.  Let me know next year how it’s working out for ya’ll.

Yee-haw buckaroos!  Available soon at a Walmart near you.  Target group is 25-54.  Nice wide net there, fella.  But be warned– if I see a 54 year old guy wearing one of these tasty creations, I’ll be tempted to put him out of his misery– on the spot.  If this doesn’t get retail sales out of it’s slump, I don’t know what will.

I needed a good laugh this morning and you supplied it. Thanks. To Mr. Sheen, don’t expect the pockets to be filled. The guy who is buying the “look” is done! The guy who is buying the lifestyle is buying Nat Nast or that other brand that does panels, you may have heard of him “TB”. Now, Toby Keith may have something here. The Affliction t’s are directed towards the UFC younger crowd and he is directing his towards the older bar hoppin’ country crowd. See the difference? Good post, thanks again for the chuckle.

Man oh man, a shirt with the sleeves cut off for you…hillbilly heaven! I always thought the Nat Nast repros were pretty poor in comparison to the real deal.

In other news, True Religion posted a profit this quarter! Toby might be on to something. As far as Mr. Sheen goes, RIP Bud Fox.

What I see Charlie Sheen wearing on that show is culottes so baggy that three of his skinny legs would fit in one leg of the culottes. That’s going to sell?
As for Toby Keith, I hear a lot of criticism of him and his clothes. Personally, I don’t think there’s a damn thing wrong with him that a bath, clean clothes and a brain transplant wouldn’t remedy.
