IT’S BETTER IN THE WIND…THE FILM | TOEPFER & CREW, “SHOW, DON’T TELL.”

It’s Better in the Wind” is still going strong.  Scott Toepfer and the guys are now in the midst of making a short film (shot mostly on Super 8mm) that chronicles their freewheeling life of adventure on the road.

Scott was kind enough to bless TSY with the premiere of a just completed trailer featuring his collaboration with good buddy Chuck Ragan who’s contributing some original songs for the soundtrack– which will be a combination of music and spoken word.  I’m pretty stoked to see the completed work– the trailer does not disappoint.

For me, “It’s Better in the Wind” is the essence of leaving the hassles and drama of the 9-to-5 grind in the dust– where it belongs. That’s the vibe that Scott captures so beautifully.  It’s not about posing, man.  It’s about showing.  The images crystalize the adventure and joy of hitting the road with good friends– to inspire themselves, as well as us, to never stop living for the day– not the man.  Hell yes.

Awesome. As a filmmaker, a lover of this blog and huge fan of HWM/Chuck Ragan, every inch of me is stoked.

Nice post. Great pics. Makes me want to throw the iPad down and jump on a Triumph and ride!

Open that garage door and get out! Captures the spirit of motorcycling. Great!

Getting past the machinery, gear, accessories, and affectations of riding to the actual action of riding, well, that’s where the magic is. Watching the trailer I was reminded, rolling down the road, how all the noise and chaos of everyday life burns away on a motorcycle, or in my case a Vespa.

    Great photography as always.

I hope there’s less art shots in the movie than in the trailer. Tell your story with clarity, instead of trying to show us how brilliant you are.

Good to see that there are other cinematic bikes than the usual Harley rolling cliches. Love the new Triumphs. Good bikes, not just nostalgia pieces.

Love looking at the pics of the Triumphs! Just bought a Thruxton myself, seeing one on this site made me really happy, Selvedge Yard is the coolest site on the web

    Steve W – dude, you’re riding a hairdryer.
Equivalent to watching a movie about wolves, then saying ‘cool – I’m going for a walk around the block carrying my toy poodle.’
Scooters blow – a little bit of hot air.
Its the duty of every motorcyclist to kick scooters into the gutter at every opportunity.

And yes, these are tongue-in-cheek comments, but by all that is holy get rid of the hairdryer and get a motorcycle!

    Hey Paul,
    Don’t dis the Vespas!
Well into my 50′s I ride a 40 year old Norton, (and ride it hard) around my home, Hawaii’s big island.
I’ve been riding almost 40 years now… last time wife and I went to honolulu, I could’ve rented a sportster, but I rented a scooter instead (a first, as far as I can remember). Good Fun! full throttle everywhere, and no need to shift! Give it a try sometime….

Yet another great post Mr. JP, many thanks!

    Cheers,
    Don

    Hi Don, (and Steve).
light hearted comments only about the scooters; I hope that came across. I’ve been riding since the late 1970s. Got one of the ‘modern classic’ Triumphs now (Thruxton), had that for the last couple of years. Props to you for the Norton.
I live in Brisbane Australia, there are heaps of great motorcycling roads here once you get an hour out of the city – twisty mountain or country roads.
The city is full of scooters, but I’ve never seen one on the twisties!
‘Full throttle and no need to shift’ – just like my wife’s hairdryer – just switch on and set the fan speed!

    Great site JP and crew.
