Ask any hardcore Gary Oldman fan what their favorite on-screen performance is, and most won’t have to think twice– the loveable, loyal, lunatic Jackie Flannery in State of Grace. Directed by Phil Joanou (Rattle and Hum), released quietly in 1990, and largely overshadowed by another epic gangster flick that hit theaters that same week– Scorsese’s Goodfellas. Due largely to Oldman’s mesmerizing performance (one of the finest actors of our time), today State of Grace is considered by many mobster movie fans to rank up there with the best of the best.

This movie was a big deal to me and my friends because of the Irish aspect. There were a lot of Italian gangster movies and this movie was the exception to the norm.
I’ve been singing the praises of this film since I first saw it in the early 90s. A criminally underrated flick.

Memorable days and easily one of the best movies ever.
Anyone see Gary in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead with Tim Roth? Another classic.
Was also great Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy!
Some great interior shots at Fannelli’s, and also the few blocks right around Price + Mercer. That corner is now the Mercer Hotel, Prada, L’Occitaine (something else now…) and Fannelli’s. 21 years ago it was all boarded up, and Prada was a huge empty loft. Wow…
AMAZING FILM – accurately captures the seediness of the old Hell’s Kitchen (not that new place “Clinton”)
Tiptoes is his greatest role playing the dwarf twin brother of Matthew McConaughey. Seriously, look it up. Gobsmacking filmmaking.
What about his amazing role in Romeo is Bleeding?

Fantastic film , fantastic performance. I have been singing the praises of Mr. Oldman for sometime its good to know that there are others out there who can appreciate the mans talent. keep doing what your doing boss.
