Sophia Loren sizing-up the… competition.*
She had it.
She knew it.
She used it.
Jayne Mansfield’s assets brought her huge success as an in-your-face sex pot, but success doesn’t always translate to mainstream taste. (Trump?) Her Hollywood home was a monument to what she loved, and that’s all that matters.
In November 1957 (shortly before her marriage to Hargitay), Mansfield bought a 40-room Mediterranean-style mansion formerly owned by Rudy Vallee at 10100 Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Mansfield had the house painted pink, with cupids surrounded by pink fluorescent lights, pink furs in the bathrooms, a pink heart-shaped bathtub, and a fountain spurting pink champagne, and then dubbed it The Pink Palace. Hargitay, a plumber and carpenter before getting into bodybuilding, built a pink heart-shaped swimming pool. Mansfield decorated the Pink Palace by writing to furniture and building suppliers requesting free samples. She received over $150,000 worth of free merchandise while paying only $76,000 for the mansion itself– a large sum nonetheless when the average house cost under $7,500 at the time. — Wikipedia.

Jayne Mansfield had 3 husbands, five children, and was dead by 34.

Jimi Hendrix played bass and lead guitar for Mansfield in 1965 on two songs she recorded– “As The Clouds Drift By” and “Suey”. MansfIeld loved music, classical in particular.
.
Mansfield reportedly had encounters with numerous individuals– Robert F. Kennedy, John F. Kennedy, the Brazilian billionaire Jorge Guinle, and the infamous Satanist, Anton LaVey.

Mickey Hargitay was from Budapest, Hungary and a former Mr. Universe, 1955-56.
.
Jayne wed Mickey wearing a transparent wedding gown– they were together from 1958-’64 and had 3 children.
.
Their acrimonious divorce had the actress accusing Hargitay of kidnapping one of her children to force a more favorable financial settlement.

In 1964 Mansfield turned down the role of Ginger Grant in Gilligan’s Island. Here Jayne floats in her pool in a sea of hot water bottles modeled after her iconic, voluptuous likeness.

The Pink Palace was sold after Mansfield’s death and its subsequent owners have included Ringo Starr, Cass Elliot, and Engelbert Humperdinck. In 2002, Humperdinck sold it to developers, and the house was demolished in November of that year.

What a tragic ending. Did she really play the violin? Quite a talent, although with rather dubious taste.

Wow. She reminds me of Britany Spears. Ally pretty and crazy and tacky and whatnot. What’s on the video? I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it or not! 🙂

Forget about the dubious taste! She was beautiful and possed something every one else wanted. The moxie to pull it off. Women wanted to be her, men wated to have her. Pretty simple really.
She was good in ‘Rock Hunter’ – tho probably more of an exibitionist than an actress. But she had something – not as appealing as Monroe – but there was something there.
Looks like Sophia Loren sized up the competition pretty well. She’s still going strong at 75. You go girl!
i love jayne! she was the ULTIMATE blonde bombshell! she was so much more spunky and fun than marilyn!
What a babe, almost too hot to be real. What a cool outdoor fireplace.Outta site man!
She turned down the role of Ginger on Gilligan’s Island? That would have been awesome!
She kicks Marilyn’s ass!
I’m gonna get one of those water bottles that floats in her pool for
my birthday this year, my man doesn’t think I know, he forgot to
remove it on his eBay list. :))

My mom once worked with Mansfield’s first husband, Paul Mansfield. This was after Mansfield left Paul and married Hargitay. My mom said that she remembered Paul being a nice guy.
She was so beautiful!
Happy new year from Norway
