BIKES, BIKINIS, BEER & BEACH | VINTAGE DAYTONA BEACH BIKE WEEK

Daytona Beach during the Golden age of the ’70s & ’80s. Before Bike Week became some kinda three-ring commercialized circus of fake boobs on a stick– there were riders and vanners of a kindred spirit who came to hang out, party on the beach, and chill. They did it outta love instead of the hype. (And the boobs were real, man.) Kinda makes you wanna take it by force from the corporate pricks, and get back to what made it great in the first place– brotherhood, escaping the grind of the rat race, and finding a little soul on the road. My favorite Flickr find ever. Amazing shots ca. 1979 by Tom Reavis.

Truly one of TSY’s most popular posts!

  1. Too bad it’s not still like that. I had my first Bike Week experience last year. Raced at Daytona(awesome, by the way) on Monday and Tuesday. Hung out with a friend who’s from there for the next couple of days. Went to a chopper show at a tattoo shop…not exactly my thing, but there were a few cool bikes and LOTS of good people watching.

  2. a great reminder of the lifestyle days before all the t.v. rich kid poseur scum went and whacked off on our lifestyle-
always seen these fakes as a source of cheap spares once the hype and fashion slavishness wears off-skum-fekk shiney!

  3. Love the pics especially of Hunter S Thompson!! Have read lots of his books. Of couse Hell’s Angels was awesome. My favorite movie is Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas!!!!

  4. remember staying at my aunt’s house for a long weekend every year while my parents headed to daytona. they took me when i was 15 in 87′ and my mind was blown.

  6. Loved the old days at Daytona when you could still park and sleep on the beach. Don’t miss the old choppers with the poorly designed frame mods and long forks.

  7. Awesome post. The problem with Bike Week now is that these same girls are still showing the goods 25 years later! I had to stay for a few days of Spring Break this year to replace the images of drunken grandmas with some memories of prime college girl flesh.

  8. Don’t get me wrong…would def love to go to this event, but who ever thought it was a good idea to let cars drive on the beach is an idoit.

Now…those two girls in the blue swimsuits are amazing! jesus!

    • Noted, concur. It happens all the time. The planet is pretty much screwed.

Funny stuff- you misspelling “idiot), yeah! Gotta love irony.

      Thanks, I needed the chuckle.

      Best,

      JP
